Arts Council England is delighted to offer an easy, affordable way for people in the West Midlands to buy contemporary works of art and craft this season, with their special interest-free loan scheme Own Art.
The Own Art scheme allows you to buy paintings, sculpture, glassware, ceramics, photography, jewellery, furniture and textiles. In fact, you can buy almost any work on offer in the participating galleries which has been created by a living artist.Own Art is available through a network of over 250 galleries and venues across the country, with 14 galleries participating in the West Midlands. The scheme allows individuals to apply for a loan of up to £2,000 - though you can go for a lower amount, even as little as £100 - and pay it back in 10 monthly instalments, completely interest free.
David Drake, Head of Visual Arts at Arts Council England, West Midlands says
‘Arts Council England wants to encourage as many people as possible throughout the West Midlands to take part in the arts. We hope that by offering a simple way of helping people manage the cost of buying pieces of art or craft, we can make it possible for more people to live with art they love. The Own Art scheme also helps to support artists to make a living from their work and galleries that sell high quality contemporary art’.
To be eligible to apply for a loan you need to be · over 18 years old · a permanent UK resident · in possession of a bank or building society account that can operate direct debit payments
The gallery that you are buying the work from will take you through the loan application process, which should only take about 10 minutes. If your application is successful, you'll be able to sign the agreement and take the work away with you immediately.
