As the self confessed social media geek of Audiences Central, I am very excited to see that so many of our members have been busy exploring the wonderful world of social media over the last few months!
Check out the following interesting projects:
The team at Wolverhampton Art Gallery have created a blog to explore the redisplays of Wolverhampton’s collection of Victorian art and objects at both the city’s gallery, and out of town museum, Bantock House. You can read the blog here, and there is also an interview on Created in Birmingham with Joanne Penn, creator of the blog, who is the Postive Action Trainee in Audience development at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. There is loads of interesting stuff to learn about the Victorian period, and some lovely photos of the exhibitions as they are being put together.
Over in Cardiff, Welsh National Opera have been using twitter to give an exclusive look at what goes on backstage at an opera- and this week they also twittered from Birmingham Hippodrome during their production of Strauss’ Salome. It’s a great way to get a flavour of all the behind the scenes antics- both in English and Welsh! You can follow the Opera mole at http://twitter.com/opera24
And finally Birmingham Contemporary Music Group have been busy capturing audience reactions to their recent concert, and have created their first video broadcast. This was done very simply (and cheaply) using the video setting on a digital stills camera- tv on a shoestring! You can keep up to date with BCMG’s latest news on twitter @BCMG
If your organisation is thinking of delving into social media, Audiences Central now offers a Social Media Membership Support Module, which you can undertake as part of your membership package. This session covers the basics of what is social media, how it can be used for audience development, what the various tools can do, and how you translate social media audiences into ‘offline’ audiences for your organisation.
If you would be interested in the Social Media module please email me at abigail.corfan@audiencescentral.co.uk
